Holiday Reading Ideas from Our Young Reviewers

Happy New Year to you all. Hope you had a lovely book-filled Christmas season. Our first words this year are from our young reviewers. They have all chosen a favourite book in the hopes they will inspire some holiday reading for those of us who still have summer holidays to fill. We have everything from adventures to break-ups, graphic novels to comedy. Why not have a read?

Tara T (Age nearly 8) – Charlie and the Chocolate Factory by Roald Dahl

What is the book about?

When Charlie wants to go to the chocolate factory. They were all searching for tickets and Charlie got one.

Who is your favourite character and why?

Charlie because he is the main character and because he is a nice boy.

What is your favourite part of the book?

When he got the ticket to go to the chocolate factory because it made me feel happy.

Why is this book better than other books?

Because it is fun and because of what happens to the naughty kids.

 

Sam S (Age 10) – The Maze Runner by James Dashner

What is the book about?

50 boys and one girl are trapped in a Maze trying to escape. If they are caught in the Maze at night The Grievers, scary monster, will get them.

Who is your favourite character and why?

Minho because he’s cool, calm, collected and fast.

What is your favourite part of the book?

Honestly it was too good to have a favourite part.

Why is this book better than other books?

I started reading and I got lost in the book and couldn’t get out. I think 10-13 year olds who like a really good story would like this book. If you don’t like scary bits this is not for you.

 

Samantha S (Aged 10 and a half) – Mary Ann Saves the Day by Ann M. Martin (The Babysitters Club Graphic Novel)

What is the book about?

Its about a girl that works with her friends as babysitters, and her and her friends have a break up. That meant that they didn’t want to talk to each other and the couldn’t run the club.

Who is your favourite character and why?

Dawn because she is really nice and a good friend.

What is your favourite part of the book?

When the friends make up from the big fight they had.

Why is this book better than other books?

Because it is a good book to read and it really pulls you in.

 

Scott T (Aged 9 and a half) – The Billionaire Boy by David by David Walliams

What is the book about?

A boy had all the money in the world and then he found out his dad paid a show model to like him, and that’s where the story begins.

Who is your favourite character and why?

Joe Spud because he is a funny and joy character.

What is your favourite part of the book?

When Joe and his friend Bob make up after a fight,

Why is this book better than other books?

Because it is funny and gives you a nice feeling. Kids who like toilet paper and money would like this book.
